Ella

Ella has one of the most remarkable natural and cultural landscapes in Sri Lanka, tracing its heritage to ancient settlements in the central highlands.

Considered a gateway to the island’s scenic beauty, Ella is surrounded by tea plantations, misty mountains, and cascading waterfalls that have long defined the region’s identity. The town is home to iconic landmarks such as the Nine Arch Bridge, an engineering marvel of the colonial era, and Little Adam’s Peak, a popular hiking trail offering panoramic views of the valleys. Ravana Falls and the nearby Ravana Cave are linked to the epic Ramayana, adding layers of myth and legend to its cultural character. Today, Ella is celebrated as a centre of eco-tourism and adventure, combining its natural splendour with heritage and modern travel culture.
